In Greek mythology Orpheus and Eurydice were celebrating their wedding day when Eurydice stepped on? was bitten by a snake and taken to hte underworld. Orpheus followed her into hte underworld where he sang for Hades and his wife Demeter. The music was so moving that Hades allowed Orpheus to take Eurydice back to the surface on hte sole condition that he did not look at her until they were out in the daylight? Orpheus led Eurydice up towards the surface but Eurydice slipped and in his concern, Orphues turned to look at her; instantly she faded away, leaving Orpheus to wander the earth in despair.
